Tuesday, November 5th

Went to Boston today.  Picked up the train near our campground and rode it into the city.  We went on the "Freedom Trail" that goes around the city and highlights 16 historical sites.  It was easy to follow because it has a "red 2-brick" path the entire way to follow.  We figured we walked about 4 to 5 miles today.  The highlights were the USS Constitution ship used in the War of 1812.  It was never defeated in any battle and it's nickname was "old ironsides," because it was so solid.  Made of oak!  We did get to go on a ship that was used in World War II.  We saw the Bunker Hill Monument and 3 of us climbed 294 steps to the top to get a good view from the top.  Round and round and round!  It was a major battle during the Revoltionary War that the British won.  Next was the famous Paul Revere.  First we saw the Old North Church where they hung the lanterns to signal the British were coming.  One lantern by land, two lanterns by sea.  We saw the statue of Paul Revere on his horse.  The streets are cool where they are still the old uneven bricks like right in front of Paul Revere's house.  His house is the oldest building in Boston.   It was a great educational day!   **Sara

  1. It makes me smile to know we walked your same path, as have hundreds of thousands of other Americans.
