Tuesday, December 31st

Wow, the last time I put 2013!  So today Sue took us to St. Augustine, Florida.  It is the oldest city in the nation!  Spain claimed Florida in 1513 and founded St. Augustine in 1565.  So Florida has celebrated 500 years of history during 2013.  We took a trolley ride all over the city.  It was quite informative and fun!  We toured the Castillo de San Marcos Fort, built by the Spanish in 1672 and completed in 1756.  They built it to protect themselves from the British.  The British did eventually take control of Florida from Spain, and over the years, they got it back and eventually gave it to the United States in 1821.  Finally, in 1845, Florida became the 27th state.  After the fort we walked around the historic town and on St. George Street.  Saw the oldest wooden schoolhouse in the US.  Had some great pizza and awesome gator and dolphin chocolate pops!

So New Year's Eve was at Sue's sister house with everyone from the bonfire plus Sue's daughter (and family) that I knew from Kremmling. Sue has a very very nice family!!!!  We ate, drank sparkly wine stuff (non-alcoholic) (I think Garrett had a whole bottle himself!), played games, the kids jumped on their trampoline, and watched the ball drop at Times Square!  It was super fun to know we were just there!!!!  It was also fun to watch it in 'real' time, instead of waiting another 2 hours like at home!   It was a great night.        **Sara
