Happy Valentine's Day❤️

Mom and I had a fun Valentine's Day together.  Today we went to the library and downloaded things. Then we went to the park and we had lunch.  I had fun hopping on the rocks that were there. After that we went to the education center and learned about trash on the beach. In the ocean there is more plastic than food for the marine animals.  On a video it showed a bird with 20 bottle caps and other pieces of plastic in its stomach and all the trash killed it.  We walked down Main Street and shopped. Next we went back to the education center and talked about oceans on the sphere. After the program, we walked on the beach and it felt really good on our feet.  It was awesome because it was sunny and warm. After that we shopped some more. Then we picked up the boys from fishing. They only got one to keep.  Garrett's fish was 1/4" too short to keep.  😕

Thursday, February 13th

Today consisted of school, fishing from the pier, more Science on the Sphere, and an aquarium.  The boys caught one fish that wasn’t big enough to keep!  We headed to the education center for another presentation on the sphere.  Today’s topic was Land.  They talked about how the earth looked 600 million years ago.  Wow, crazy!  South America and Africa used to be all one piece of land.  Only 1% of the water on earth is available for human usage.  North and South America move away from Europe and Africa 2 inches per year.  2013 was the 10^th hottest year on record and 2014 is predicted to be the hottest ever.  (Super hard to believe with how cold it has been so far this winter……at least wherever we’ve been!)  They talked about the plates of the earth.  The one in the Pacific area is called the Pacific Plate, also called "Ring of Fire" because of all the earthquakes and volcanoes that occur in the western side (or Far East?) near Japan or the Philippines.

 The Rockport Aquarium is a small but mighty!  Their fish are from this area so it was very interesting.  While Jeff and the kids waited for me to do some work using good WiFi at the County Library, they went to the dock to watch the oyster boats come in.  BUSY place on a nice afternoon.  Home to cook up some Sheephead fish for dinner.  Wasn’t great actually, so I guess they don’t need to feel bad about not catching very many.   

TOMORROW IS THE DAY TO GO OUT ON THE BOAT TO FISH!  ONLY BEEN TRYING FOR 9 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, February 12th

First we first did a little school and then went to The Maritime Museum in Rockport. We learned about a European explorer that found the mouth of the Mississippi. He later sailed four ships in the 1700s back to the Mississippi Mouth area to establish a colony. We also learned about oil platforms, old fishing equipment, and oyster harvesting.

Next, we went to the Bay Education Center where there was a presentation about the atmosphere. It wasn't just any presentation, it was "Science on a Sphere" with 4 projectors. It talked about hurricanes and weather within the earth. Did you know that there are never hurricanes near the equator?  Bet not.

Tuesday, February 11th

Nothing exciting to report besides school, laundry, and too darn cold to fish.  Yes, we're whining----we're in south Texas and it's supposed to be warm!  37 isn't exactly!

Monday, February 10th

This afternoon we took a drive to Padre Island. It runs along the south Texas coast.  It is the National Seashore that protects the longest stretch of barrier island in the world.    It is 70 miles worth of sandy beaches full of shells.  We drove right on the beach.  It was like driving in a foot of snow in some areas......pulling you one way then another!  It's the only version of snow we're gonna get this year!!!  The kids picked up lots of cool shells including star fish.      **Sara

Sunday, February 9th

We woke up and cleaned the camper. Garrett and dad went fishing on the pier while mom and I cleaned. Garrett caught one!  Then we went to the big tree and climbed on another big tree that was there. After that the boys went back to fish and caught nothing and it got really foggy.                  Audree <> 

Saturday, February 8th

Went for a drive today around the area, including Port Aransas.  To get there, we had to take a ferry for about 100 yards!!  I kept asking why they didn't just build a bridge.  I finally got a good answer.......too many huge ships that pass through there for a bridge.  We drove on the beach, Jeff and Garrett fished, we dodged all the pelicans, and we played tourist - oh ya we are tourists, in front of the big shark.   Drove back to Rockport and had another Po-Boy!  Jeff was in heaven.  They fished from the pier again at the campground and caught one!    **Sara

PS   Finally tried the Astronaut Freeze-Dried Neopolitan Ice Cream Drops!  Pretty horrible.  I think I would just do without ice cream if I went to the moon!  Lol
